ACT Global promotes energy-efficient public procurement in Georgia by providing evidence-based insights

ACT Global promotes energy-efficient public procurement in Georgia by providing evidence-based insights through the research conducted with the support of international development agency - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Under the ECO.Georgia project, ACT Global has successfully completed the research assignment, 'Analytical Report on Energy-Efficient Public Procurement (EEPP),' and hosted the high-level closing workshop.

The workshop brought together over 60 participants, including representatives of the State Procurement Agency, Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, city halls from various municipalities, and procurement units of public entities.

The project assessed current practices and trends in applying energy efficiency principles in public procurement in Georgia, identified key challenges and barriers, and developed practical, actionable recommendations to advance green and energy-efficient procurement. During the closing event, ACT Global presented the key research findings and policy recommendations. The discussions were further enriched by contributions from World Bank and Asian Development Bank procurement department representatives, who shared international experience and innovative approaches to green procurement.

As mentioned above, the study was conducted within the framework of the project “Enabling the Implementation of Georgia’s Forest Sector Reform - ECO Georgia”, which aims at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through improved energy efficiency and decreased reliance on fuelwood in the country. ECO.Georgia project is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Government of Georgia (GoG).

ACT Global remains committed to supporting evidence-based policymaking and capacity building that promote sustainable, climate-smart public sector reforms.
